Kingfisher at Bough Beech

Kingfisher at Bough Beech

11/11/2012

After taking photographs at Commonwork near Chiddingstone on 10 November 2012, I visited Bough Beech Reservoir. A couple of birdwatchers told me about the kingfisher that they had been watching for the previous half an hour. I’d never seen a kingfisher before but I caught a quick glimpse as it flew away.

After the kingfisher returned to its perch I managed to set up my camera on a tripod with my Sigma 150-500mm lens. To compensate for the lack of light caused by sun setting behind the causeway I increased the ISO speed from my preferred setting of 200 to 2000. This introduced a lot of camera noise but it did allow me to get the bird’s bright colours.
